A ‘Smashingly’ Fun Day on Court
The New Year began with a bang for a bunch of staff from R.E.A.L Education Group’s Head Office as they threw on their sports attire, shoes and picked up their racquets for a friendly badminton tournament. Dubbed the ‘R.E.A.L BMTC’ or R.E.A.L Badminton Mixed Team Competition 2015, the inaugural event was held on 24 January 2015 at the USJ 23 Arena Sport centre and saw the participation of 24 players in total. They consisted of both current and ex-staff of R.E.A.L Education Group HQ.
Although set within a casual, fun and relaxed atmosphere; the event was essentially a tournament albeit a friendly one, with prizes up for grabs for the winning team and runners-up. The programme kicked off with the selection of the two captains (for Teams A and B) who subsequently took turns in picking their team members.
This was followed by the players determining their respective team’s line-up based on a fixed match schedule; namely mixed doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s singles and men’s doubles. With all the formalities done and dusted, the action proper finally got underway as the two sets of players stepped onto court to test their prowess against each other.
In a tightly-fought but thoroughly fun contest, Team A eventually came out triumphs and emerged as champions by chalking a narrow overall victory over Team B. This was followed by the prize presentation ceremony where Mr. Kenny Sim, Vice-President of R.E.A.L’s Group Corporate Resources and coincidentally one of the two team captains, presented every player with a medal. Meanwhile, the winning prize in the form of a hamper was presented to Team A by Mr. Joel Law, Special Assistant to the President of R.E.A.L Education Group.
At the end of the day, everyone went home a winner as the maiden competition provided an avenue for past and present R.E.A.L HQ staff to cultivate an active, balanced lifestyle while forging closer camaraderie and team spirit amongst fellow colleagues. More importantly, it was a Saturday morning full of smashing fun, laughter and on-court action. The organizing committee of ‘R.E.A.L BMTC’ would like to thank the management for its firm support and kind sponsorship in making this event a reality.
